John Dyer and Joanne Short have travelled extensively in France and Italy exploring these delightful countries with their paints and canvases. From 2007 to 2010 the artists had a studio on the Côte d'Azur at La Mortola in Italy during their residency at the Giardini Hanbury (Hanbury Gardens). The artists lived in France during this time at the Winter Palace in Menton and the Clos du Peyronnet in Menton which itself has one of the most famous gardens in France.
Often the artists visit Provence and once a year they will visit areas such as the Luberon, and the wine villages of the Côte du Rhone including Rasteau and Gigondas. Rasteau has a particular connection as John and Joanne spent their honeymoon their and a large mural painted by the artists can be seen at Ferme La Garriguette, Rasteau. The tourist information office in Rasteau often displays art posters of John Dyer's paintings of the area.
Paris has also made an excellent subject for the artists and they have made several painting trips to this beautiful city.
The vineyards, colours, olive groves and cherry trees of Provence provide endless inspiration for the artists and the coast around Nice, Monaco and Menton has also made a rich subject for these two remarkable painters to explore.
Artist Ted Dyer has also spent considerable amounts of time exploring the landscape of Italy and France with notable collections and exhibitions based on the Venice Carnival and the colour and light of Provence. All of our artists have exhibited their work from France in a major exhibition in Cork Street London.

A day out in the lavender fields of Provence, at Sault, inspired the artist to paint this energetic and romantic painting. An autobiographical painting that captures the colour and feel of the lavender wonderfully. Impasto paint forms the lavender in the foreground and the village of Sault creates a warm Provençal background to this special painting.
